چکیده

Wen LU, Shao-bo WANG, Rui WANG Institute of Meteorology & oceanography, PLA University of Science & Technology, Nanjing 211101, China Introduction: WindSat is the first spaceborne fully polarimetric microwave radiometer in the world. It can measure the third and fourth Stokes parameters of the target and provide a new way for sea ice remote sensing. By using WindSat data in 2004, we studied on the brightness temperature characteristics of the third and fourth Stokes parameters over Antarctic sea ice. Methods: The regional distribution, time variation and anisotropy of the brightness temperatures were analyzed. For time series analysis, six areas (arc1-arc6) were chosen.

Verification of L-band Fully Polarimetric Noise Injection Radiometer Measurement Capability

Abstract A functional test to verify the proper and accurate measurement capability of an L-band fully polarimetric noise injection radiometer is presented. The test is designed specifically for the MDPP-2 (MIRAS Demonstrator Pilot Project 2) NIR (Noise Injection Radiometer), which has two functions: (1) to calibrate the MIRAS (Microwave Imaging Radiometer using Aperture Synthesis) instrument b...

A calibration method for fully polarimetric microwave radiometers

A technique for absolute end-to-end calibration of a fully polarimetric microwave radiometer is presented. The technique is based on the tripolarimetric calibration technique of Gasiewski and Kunkee, but is extended to provide a means of calibrating all four Stokes parameters. The extension is facilitated using a biaxial phase-retarding microwave plate to provide a precisely known fourth Stokes...

A correlated noise calibration standard for interferometric, polarimetric, and autocorrelation microwave radiometers

A new type of calibration standard is presented which produces a pair of microwave noise signals to aid in the characterization and calibration of correlating radiometers. The Correlated Noise Calibration Standard (CNCS) is able to generate pairs of broad bandwidth stochastic noise signals with a wide variety of statistical properties. The CNCS can be used with synthetic aperture interferometer...

Multifrequency Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar Observations of Sea Ice

The first known fully polarimetric airborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data set of sea ice is introduced. Images were acquired in the Beaufort, Bering and Chukchi seas in March 1988, during a campaign for validation of Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Special Sensor Microwave Imager radiometer ice products. Statistics of the magnitude, phase and polarization of complex backscattered...

Fully polarimetric microwave radiometer for remote sensing

The design, characteristics, and operation of the Helsinki University of Technology Fully Polarimetric Radiometer (FPoR) are described. The developed 36.5-GHz radiometer can be used for airborne remote sensing; however, ground-based and laboratory measurements are also possible. A direct cross-correlation technique with analog correlators, which measures all four Stokes parameters simultaneousl...
